Main Water Line Repair in Everett, WA: A New Line From the Meter, Under the Slab if It Has To
Done Right Plumbing repairs and replaces main water lines across Everett, from Lowell and Riverside up to Bayside, Northwest Everett and Silver Lake. We replace failing service lines with one continuous run of PEX A inside a protective conduit, with a tracer wire, a new shutoff at the house and a fifteen-year warranty on the pipe.
Real Work in Everett
Tom's Water Line Replacement, October 2026
In early October, Tom called us about a leak under the floor slab of his garage in Lowell, the old river neighborhood on Everett's south end. Rather than chase the leak under the concrete and patch one more spot on an old line, Ashton, Joshua, Joseph P., Theoren, Michael and Jayden replaced the whole water service, about a hundred feet of it, from the meter at the road to the house.
The new line is one-inch PEX A, pulled inside an HDPE conduit with a tracer wire alongside it so the plastic pipe can always be found from the surface. Where the service comes up into the garage, the crew opened the concrete, brought the new pipe up through the floor and finished it with a new quarter-turn ball valve, so the house has a shutoff that works with one hand. The concrete they removed was patched once the line was in. The permit was part of the job, and the new pipe carries our fifteen-year warranty.
In August, Malikai and Joshua handled a different kind of slab leak in Northwest Everett, where the leak was on a copper supply pipe inside the house rather than on the service line. They opened the floor where the old pipe failed, ran a new insulated supply line through the opening and tied it in at both ends, ready for the floor to be closed again. On any slab leak, the first job is working out which of the two you have.

“There was a water leak under the garage floor slab. Done Right came in and put in a new water line (about 100 feet) from the meter at the road to the house in less than two days. It was a very clean operation. The crew were all very nice young men who worked well together and were very polite and professional, they all knew what to do.”
What We Do on an Everett Water Line
Replace the service from the meter to the house
When a water service is leaking, has lost its pressure or is simply made of a material that has run its course, we replace it in one piece. The new line is PEX A from the meter outlet to the house, with a tracer wire, an HDPE conduit around it on most jobs, and new connections at both ends. Houses built from the 1960s through the 1990s often have black poly pipe, which tends to fail at around 30 to 40 years old, and once a poly line starts leaking it has reached the end of its life, so on poly we recommend the replacement every time.
A spot repair, where the pipe still has years left
When the line itself is sound and the failure is local, such as a fitting that let go or a pipe nicked during someone else's digging, we open that one spot, repair it in PEX A and leave the rest alone. If you want a repair priced on a leaking poly line anyway, we price it beside the replacement so you can compare the two honestly.
Through a garage slab, a driveway or a lawn
Many Everett services come in under a garage or driveway, as Tom's did. We cut only where the line comes up, bore under the rest where the ground allows, and patch the concrete afterward. Our trenchless water line replacement page explains when boring makes sense.
A main shutoff you can actually use
A replacement is the right time to put a new quarter-turn valve where the line enters the house, and to add a pressure regulator if the street pressure runs high. Our water pressure page covers when that matters.
What Makes an Everett Water Line Job Different
Everett water, Spada Lake and the line that is yours
Everett's water comes from Spada Lake, the reservoir behind Culmback Dam on the Sultan River, and is treated at Lake Chaplain before it reaches the city. The same system supplies roughly three quarters of Snohomish County. Under the City's water rules, the line from the curb shutoff into the house is the property owner's to maintain, which is the pipe we replace.
Lowell, Riverside and the older south and east ends
Lowell started as a logging camp on a bend of the Snohomish River in 1863, decades before Everett existed, and joined the city in the early 1960s, shortly before I-5 cut through its western edge. Riverside and Bayside, on the bluffs and flats above the river and the bay, carry some of the oldest housing in the city. Services in these neighborhoods are often older than the houses' last remodel, and many come up through a garage or basement slab.
Northwest Everett, Silver Lake and the newer neighborhoods
Northwest Everett's older homes sit close together on small lots, so a line that runs under a driveway, a walkway or a garage is common, and a leak there often shows up indoors first. Farther south, around Silver Lake, many neighborhoods were built later, in the decades when black poly was a common choice for water services, and those lines are now reaching their failure years.
A permit for the line behind the meter
Everett issues a specific "water line behind meter" permit for work on the private line between the meter and the house, and the City's water rules call for the work to be inspected. We pull that permit and book the inspection as part of the job, as we did in Lowell.
Our Process
1. Prove the leak is on the service line
With every fixture off, we read the meter and then close the main at the house. If the meter keeps moving, the water is leaving between the meter and the house.
2. Check the pipe and where it comes in
We look at what the line is made of and where it enters, whether that is a crawlspace, a basement wall or a garage slab.
3. Locate what is buried
811 marks the utilities, and we plan the route and any cuts in concrete around them.
4. Install, connect and test
The new PEX A goes in with its conduit and tracer wire, both ends get new fittings and a new shutoff, and we test the line under pressure.
5. Inspect, restore and walk you through it
The City inspects the work, the trench is backfilled, the concrete is patched, and we show you where the new line runs.
FAQs About Water Line Repair in Everett
Who is responsible for my water line in Everett?
You are, from the curb shutoff into the house. Everett's water rules put the private service line on the property owner, while the City looks after the main and its side of the meter. If the meter keeps turning with your taps off, the leak is almost always on the part that is yours to repair.
Our leak responsibility guide explains how a leak on the private side affects your water bill.
Do I need a permit to replace my water line in Everett?
Yes. Everett issues a "water line behind meter" permit for replacing the private line between the meter and the house, and the City's water rules call for the work to be inspected. We apply for it, include it in the price and book the inspection, the same as on the Lowell replacement this October.
My water line leaks under the garage slab. Do you have to tear up the floor?
Only where the line comes up. On a service leak under a slab, replacing the line usually means one opening in the concrete where the pipe enters the house, with the rest of the new line run outside the slab. In Lowell, the crew opened the garage floor at the entry point and patched it afterward.
If the leak is on a supply pipe inside the house instead, as it was in Northwest Everett, the repair happens under the slab itself.
What does it cost to replace a water line in Everett?
Most full replacements from the meter to the house in our area run $6,000 to $16,000, and spot repairs $2,000 to $6,000. In Everett, the length of the run and whether the line comes up through a garage or driveway slab decide where a job lands, so a hundred-foot line with concrete work sits in the upper half.
How long does a water line replacement take?
Most take one day, and a long or complicated line can take two. Tom's hundred-foot line in Lowell, with the garage floor opened and patched, was finished in under two days by a crew of six. The water is off only while the new line is connected, usually a few hours.
